Price alerts for coffee and capsules
Coffee is the clearest case for a price alert. You buy it on a schedule, you buy the same thing every time, and it is on offer constantly. The catch is that a box of 40 capsules and a box of 100 are priced to look alike. DipCatch turns both into a price per cup and watches them.
What this looks like
A box of 40 capsules is €14.99 and a box of 100 of the same capsule is €31.99. That is €0.37 a cup against €0.32, so the larger box wins until the small one goes on offer at €11.99 and takes the lead at €0.30. DipCatch tells you which week that happens.
Getting the most out of it
- Pick your price per cup. A box of 100 at a good price still beats a box of 40 on offer more often than not.
- Add the supermarket and the webshop for the same coffee. They rarely run offers in the same week.
- Watch the end date on an offer price. A bonus week that closes tomorrow is not the price you will pay on Friday.
Shops we know well
Paste a product link from any other shop as well. Most shops work. We only set a shop up ourselves when its page is too tricky to read otherwise.
Common questions
Which shops work for coffee?
Paste a product link. Most shops work. We set up Albert Heijn, Jumbo, bol.com and the Amazon sites ourselves, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com included. Other webshops often work as well, and you see what we found before you save it.
Does it work for pads and beans as well as capsules?
Yes. Whatever the pack says, DipCatch reads the number or the weight and works out the price per cup, kilo or litre from it.
Can I track the same coffee at more than one shop?
Yes, and that is where it earns its keep. Add the same product from several shops and the page shows you the cheapest one right now.
Do supermarket bonus prices count?
They do. AH Bonus and Dirk promo prices are read as the current price, which is usually the price you actually want to know about.
Does it work with a shop that only sells beans by subscription?
If the page states a price, yes. A price that only appears after you pick a delivery interval usually cannot be read, and you see that before anything is saved.
Can I set a target per cup rather than per box?
Yes. You can pick a price per cup, per kilo or per litre, whichever the pack states.
Which coffee is worth tracking?
The one you reorder without thinking. A coffee you buy once is a choice. A coffee you buy every month is a fixed cost, and that is where watching the price pays for itself.
